Program Description
This charity began working with communities in Sri Lanka that have been affected by thirty year of civil war. This organization works with villages in the north by creating infrastructure will wells and toilets. These are accomplished through partnering with the local community to create growth initiatives. Health education is of central importance and this is communicated to schools and through community seminars. This charity has created information and health centres as well as a library to educate people on health, the importance of hygiene, proper sanitation, and family planning. This organization is also involved in other building and renovation projects throughout the country.
Housing
Many of the underprivileged and the rural population do not have access to sufficient housing and shelter. Volunteers will help by building roofs, working on construction, paining, and installing important components of the house. Lack of proper housing is a huge issue and many volunteers are needed to help redress this problem in local communities who lack proper resources. You will also learn valuable skills by participating in these building projects.
Water and Sanitation
One of the major causes of diseases and illness transmission is poor hygiene and contaminated water. Lack of effective sanitation facilities and a clean source of water are both serious issues facing these communities. Volunteers will go out to villages to help build toilets, dig holes for sanitation structures, create clean water storage units, and construct rainwater collection tanks.
Building Schools:
Children who live in impoverishment lack access to quality education since their communities do not have schools or they only have schools that are falling apart. Volunteers will assist with repairing schools or help with constructing new classrooms. This may involve work with plumbing or carpentry, and other volunteers may need to step into teaching roles so that the students are educated while the schools are built. This will provide students with a valuable opportunity for a successful future.
