Program Description

Discover Nepal’s hidden beauty, and teach English in Tibetan monasteries to help the young monks realise their true potential. You will have the unique opportunity to teach Tibetan kids and adults how to understand scriptures written in English, whilst exploring the fascinating culture of the Buddhist monasteries – something which the average tourist can only dream of experiencing.

During this project you will spend your working days planning your own English lessons, organising games, conducting workshops and other creative activities. Your teaching will have a truly positive impact, as being able to speak and read English is a skill that can dramatically enhance the course of a Buddhist monk’s life.

You will be based in the capital city of Kathmandu, and during your free time you will be able to explore here and the breath-taking country of Nepal. You will have the chance to experience Nepal’s world-famous attractions including rafting on the Tibetan border, trekking the renowned Annapurna circuit or even bungee jumping with the longest free-fall bungee jump in the world.

Qualifications

- Minimum age: 18 years old
- A good level of oral and written English
- Teaching experience is desirable but not mandatory
- International volunteers are welcome
- You should be independent, enthusiastic, adaptable, hard-working and have an open-minded attitude
- Most importantly you need to be respectful of the Nepalese culture and enjoy working with children
