Spanish

When you learn Spanish in a Spanish-speaking country, the literature and the use of the new language is a part of everyday life. With initiative and drive, you learn to speak fluent Spanish.

Seminars takes place in groups of 4-6 students led by teachers from the language faculty of the University of León. They are trained to teach Spanish as a foreign language and makes it easier for students to practice the language both orally and in writing. As part of the course you will also visit local organizations.

Grammar class is mainly in the form of lectures.

Perhaps the most important part of the course is the time you spend by throwing yourself into the Nicaraguan society and everyday Spanish conversations with people around you.

Our Spanish courses are academic and gives credits. It is not a regular language course, but a course that you can build on and thus qualify to teach in Spanish.

Latin American studies

This course, which constitute the second half of the semester, gives you an introduction to Latin America's social and cultural development in a historical perspective. The emphasis is on Central America (south of Mexico and north of Panama, excluding the Caribbean). The course gives an account of key historical processes that the region has undergone, and how these processes have helped shape today's political, economic and social institutions. The literature deals with specific cultural traits of Latin America, while providing an introduction to general cultural understanding. Instruction is given as lectures and seminars.
