Program Description
Join the Sanisera Archaeology Institute for International Field Schools for a three part program. This course brings together students from across the globe and delves into Roman cities and underwater archaeology.
The first portion of this program will have participants exploring the Cape of Cavalleria and conducting underwater archaeological survey around the port of Sanitja in Spain. You will have the opportunity to explore shipwrecks and structural aspects of the ancient Roman city.
The second portion of the course covers shipbuilding techniques on the Mediterranean. This both a theoretical and practical course as students will have the opportunity to work on a ship built in the 1920s.
The third portion of the course will take students to the Baia Underwater Park and the submerged remains of Portus Iulius. This course component will take place in Naples Bay in Italy. This is an impressive underwater systems of remains that include a villa and even a bath complex. The Baia Underwater Archaeological Park is renowned and has made this a world famous site. Learn how to recognize Roman pottery, amphoras, sculptures, and mosaics. Use photography and recording techniques to help inventory the remains located in this area.
