Program Description
Criminal behavior has become a topic of debate among scientists, politicians and practitioners in the criminal justice system alike. Psychology and law tend to have different visions of the problem, but their intersection can provide vital truths when dealing with criminal behavior. Psychological knowledge is a valuable source of information, the use of which could prevent unjust situations often enforced by law.
The Summer School is an exciting opportunity to broaden your knowledge and gain perspective on the interplay between law and psychology by examining criminal behavior and addressing the problem of crime. Students will discuss these issues with academics and practitioners during guest lecturers, as well outside the classroom during site visits and special events. Courses discuss eyewitness testimony, false and recovered memories, identification evidence and the legal process, wrongful convictions and false confessions.
Students will ultimately understand the necessity of scientific knowledge in avoiding biased court procedures and unjust sentences during this unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge of psychology's role in the criminal justice system
