Program Description
The Semester of Service program partners with the Gadjah Mada University to deliver a comprehensive program for students interested in being unofficial ambassadors to non-governmental organizations and schools. This is a semester program that allows participants to increase their academic learning with real world experience.
Students will learn Bahasa at UGM alongside two other courses. The academic courses open are in Southeast Asian studies, Political Science, International Relations, and History. Students will be immersed in working with local communities by teaching English and helping with clubs at schools or with NGOs through youth empowerment, women’s health, and human rights. This program combines rigorous academic study with a “semester of service” while also building up language skills.
Students will reside in campus housing off-campus near to the university. The university features clubs and activities as well as excursions to breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Highlights
The program highlights 20-25 hours each week of internship experience with a school or NGO in Yogyjakarta working in fields like education, human rights, or women's empowerment. Students teach English and run after-school clubs at local schools or support the program implementation, outreach, and communications of NGOs.There are 2 courses in fields like History, International Relations, Political Science or Southeast Asian Studies. Classes are taught in English.
Instruction is given each week for 3 hours at university level.
A transcript from UGM and an AUA certificate in Citizen Diplomacy will be awarded upon completion of the program.
What`s Included
The program fee of $15,505 includes housing for the full semester, university tuition, transportation to and from internship sites, medical insurance, and monthly cultural field trips. Airfare and personal expense are not included. For more information about this program please inquire.Subjects
