Middlebury School in Russia: Yaroslavl
Program Description
Students who have completed four semesters of Russian language training are invited to participate in the program under the Middlebury Language Pledge®, a commitment to speak exclusively the target language for the duration of their time abroad. The Middlebury School in Russia offers an exceptional academic program to undergraduates at U.S. colleges and universities.
Quiet and peaceful Yaroslavl is perfect for students with less advanced language skills. It has the feel of a small town, yet it has a vibrant social life. One of the Golden Ring cities, Yaroslavl is over 1,000 years old and has an unmistakable feeling of tradition and history.
Students take a combination of the following types of courses:
1. Middlebury-organized core courses in Russian civilization, culture and language plus one spetskurs
2. Direct enrollment alongside Russian students at Yaroslavl Pedagogical Institute
3. Credit-bearing internships
Linguistic development and cultural understanding are at the core of the Middlebury Schools Abroad, and students have many opportunities for immersion, from coursework entirely in Russian to housing with local families; from internships and volunteer work to activities among the student body of our host institutions. Our goal is to provide an enriching academic experience and to give students the best chance of actively engaging in their new environment.
