Middlebury School in Jordan: Amman

Overall rating: 0 based on 0 reviews

Program Description

The Middlebury School in Jordan offers an exceptional academic program to undergraduates at U.S. colleges and universities. Students who have completed two years of Modern Standard Arabic training are invited to participate in the program under the Middlebury Language Pledge®, a commitment to speak exclusively the target language for the duration of their time abroad.

Amman is one of the oldest cities in the world and is both modern and prosperous. Because of its central location in the Arab world, Amman has always been a melting pot of diverse cultures, and as the capital and biggest city of Jordan, it is one of the great cultural centers of the Middle East.

Students take a combination of the following types of courses:
1. Modern Standard Arabic
2. Colloquial Jordanian Arabic
3. Elective courses in Jordan and Middle Eastern culture, religion, or politics
4. Direct enrollment courses and internships for qualified students in their second semester

Linguistic development and cultural understanding are at the core of the Middlebury Schools Abroad, and students have many opportunities for immersion, from coursework entirely in Arabic to housing with local families; from internships and volunteer work to activities among the student body of the University of Jordan. Our goal is to provide an enriching academic experience and to give students the best chance of actively engaging in their new environment.
