Program Description
Study Abroad in Dublin. The theatrical essence of the work will be explored and performed through this summer programme by the Irish Theatre Summer School. The final evening of the programme will showcase selected scenes from the various plays studied. Participants will be a part of practical acting workshops and seminars specifically created to develop an understanding of the literary and historical foundation of selected texts and to place the writers in a fulfilling environment of theatre.
Participants will have the opportunity to visit historically significant sites such as Viking at St. Michan’s Church, James Joyce Tower in Sandycove, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Hugh Lane Gallery, the National Gallery, the Irish Writers Museum, Trinity College, the Chester Beatty Library, and Dublin Castle, as well as select evening theatre performances.
Duration: 5 days a week over 4 weeks. Weekends are free for travel

Price: €2500 (€1800 without accommodation)

Highlights
Participants will have the chance to view performances at hallowed theatres including The Gate, Abbey Theatre, The Gaiety Theatre and Dublin's oldest theatre, Smock Alley Theatre - 1662What`s Included
Week 1: Attend lectures focusing on the Irish literary tradition and on contemporary Irish theatre. There will also be acting classes that focus on practical exploration of acting techniques and short scene studies, with emphasis on Samuel Beckett.Week 2: You will work on and attend lectures focused on John Millington Synge, William Butler Yeats and George Bernard Shaw.
Week 3: You will Focus on the work of Sean O’Casey, and start preparing short scenes for presentation in the final week.
Week 4: This week is focused on contemporary Irish playwrights: Brian Friel, Marina Carr, Conor McPherson, and Martin McDonagh. There will also be an exploration of Irish films: ‘Michael Collins’
