Program Description

East and Central European Studies is a study abroad program for English-speaking students facilitated by the Faculty of Arts International Office at Charles University. Students who study with ECES have full access to Faculty of Arts resources, receive a Charles University student ID card, and take classes with English-speaking Faculty of Arts professors and lecturers. All courses taught through ECES are approved by the highly esteemed academic board of the Faculty of Arts. The ECES program provides students with the opportunity to live in Charles University dormitories (Komenského Kolej), travel to important and interesting sites within the Czech Republic and neighboring countries, and study interesting liberal arts topics in a culturally unique and diverse city. Many ECES courses include field trips and excursions to demonstrate the connection between class materials and the city in which the students are studying. Highlights

Studying with ECES provides students the opportunity to study in English at one of the oldest and most respected universities in Europe. Students are able to take Czech language lessons to help them navigate Prague, and they are able to choose from a multitude of courses that relate to many academic disciplines. ECES provides students with day trips in the Czech Republic, and organizes excursions for students in the Czech Republic and surrounding countries to give students the chance to take full advantage of their geographic location while studying abroad in Prague. The student housing is located in a desirabe and residential neighborhood within 10 minutes walk from Prague Castle, with easy public transport access to the university buildings and the rest of the city. The English-speaking staff of ECES provide assistance wherever possible to help students fully enjoy their time studying in Prague.

What`s Included

Orientation week with two free day trips within the Czech Republic*, 2-week Czech language intensive course (3 US credits)*, 24-hour emergency assistance, English-speaking staff, enrollment in up to 6 courses (semester) or 4 courses (summer), small class sizes, welcome reception cruise on the Vltava River, farewell party, visa registration assistance, weekly cultural events (extra fee), planned excursions in the Czech Republic and neighboring countries (extra fee), Charles University student ID card

*Designates semester inclusions only. Summer students have a shorter orientation period with a free day trip to Kuntá Hora and an 8-hour "Survival" Czech class.
