Dessau International Architecture (DIA) Master Course

Program Description

The objective of the course Dessau International Architecture (DIA) is to enable the graduates, by the teaching and learning of comprehensive knowledge and skills in issues of architectural designing, holistic aesthetic thinking, urbanism, the theory of architecture, sustainability, the engineering art, in architecture and in the handling of new media, to apply scientific methods and knowledge specific for the profession and in this way to solve inter-disciplinary problems too. The superior objective of the study is a holistic 4-semester international advance course of study with focus on designing of the urban environment. The study is scientifically oriented and aims at practical application. The successful completion enables the graduate to render comprehensive management tasks in the field of architecture and to enter in promotion procedures.

Highlights

DIA is the largest international master program in architecture in Germany. The central element of the course are the project studios. The general learning target of the studios as a teaching module is to train the students in individually studying a design task. The students are enabled to investigate a problem area, to formulate it in a scientifically founded way, and to develop an individual, interdisciplinary design solution. The students are enabled in the studio to acquire and deepen theoretical knowledge and to train its practical application in disciplinary or interdisciplinary topics.

What`s Included

At DIA all tuition is held in English. It is a course of 4 semesters duration. In the first three semesters, a full curriculum is the basis of studies, with the design studio at its core. The studios and part of the curriculum are organised consecutively for the 1st Year and the 2nd Year, the latter consisting of a preparitive 3rdSemester and the 4th semester being theThesis Semester, where there are only few lectures and classes to which attendance is compulsory. We generally recommend full attention and presence in or near to Dessau throughout the course including the 4th semester. For foreign students there are language classes in German every week, so that your proficiency in German will help you to integrate yourself here more.
