Program Description

TEFL Training Center

Via Lingua Panama City has training centers that are housing in ELS Language Centers in Panama City. Our Training Center is in the heart of one of the most renowned and modern parts of the city.

Teaching English in Panama

While the “Survivor” TV show may paint Panama as a difficult place to live in, that is far from the reality. No matter your reason for being a TEFL instructor, retirement, career change or just enjoying the weather, this career will support a comfortable lifestyle.

While having some knowledge of Spanish would be helpful, it is not necessary. Panamanians usually know a bit of English and schools require teachers to only use English in classrooms.

You will have the chance to teach classes in the afternoon, evening or on the weekend. Students will be aged from those in college to older business clients. There are private schools that teach English as a class or use it in other subjects.

The Importance of English in Panama

English is an important part of Panama, since probably before Francis Drake. Being skilled in English allows locals to enter into their important career fields: tourism, call centers and real estate. English is especially needed in the tourism industry since there has been a large expansion of hotels. While service in Panama has historically not been the best due to miscommunication, this is shifting due to hotel giants that create training facilities for local staff. Those who speak English make more money. This is a great opportunity for English teachers to get in on the ground floor!
