Program Description
Study abroad with Wilkes University and study Ceramic Arts in Italy. You will be placed in Tuscany in a town called Certaldo where we have partnered with La meridian, an international school of ceramics. We have developed a course that appeals to both teachers of art as well as artists in a placement site that is filled with art history and Italian culture. This course covers pedagogical skills and technical competencies. Use techniques such as visual journaling to work through the creative process and be a part of an artistic lifestyle.
This course was designed to combine practice and demonstration with building techniques that increase competency in firing ceramics, glazing/decorating, and construction. The skills and techniques learned in this course are tuned to instructing ceramics in American schools. We emphasize teaching practicums with diverse classrooms and tackle contemporary obstacles often faced with teaching art. Program participants will be able to meet Italian art instructors to converse and have dialogues about interesting aspects of teaching art.
