Program Description

Come with CEA to Spain and study in a true university town with a history like no other — Granada, Spain offers traditional markets and sophisticated shopping, vibrant nightlife and recreational activities…everything a busy student needs to unwind! Just an hour from Mediterranean beaches and even closer to the stunning Sierra Nevada Mountains, Granada is the perfect place to hone your Spanish skills and immerse into local culture.

But it offers so much more than natural beauty and entertainment: from the majestic courtyards and mosaics of the Alhambra to the lush gardens of the Palacio del Generalife, Granada is steeped in a cultural, artistic, and historic heritage that's been shaped by centuries of diverse influences. Today, al-Andalus society reflects its Arabic, Romani and Jewish roots, and reflects a model of mutually respectful, multicultural living. The city of Granada offers a striking representation of Spain’s multicultural history, as well as its own unique Islamic legacy, established during almost 800 years of Muslim rule. CEA students study alongside approximately 10,000 Spanish and international students at Spain’s third largest university, The University of Granada (UGR), which was established in 1531. UGR’s Modern Language Center is located in the historic and centrally located Realejo neighborhood, and classes are held in the ancient Palace of Santa Cruz and a charming 20th century palace called the Huerta de los Ángeles. A broad range of classes allow you to earn credits toward graduation while exploring your academic, personal, and career interests.

• Hispanic Studies
• Spanish Language Studies & Community Internship

Highlights

Some of Granada’s most significant cultural attractions include the Alhambra Palace, the gardens at the Palacio de Generalife, and Albaycín, the Arab neighborhood declared Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO. It is known for its unique historic, artistic and cultural heritage, and is popular among students for its relaxed college-town vibe and proximity to Mediterranean beaches and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. But don’t take our word for it. Author Ernest Hemingway once said, “If you were to visit only a city in Spain, this should be Granada.”
