Program Description

Florence is one of the most gorgeous cities on Earth. During the Roman Empire the city, experienced it's rise, that also attracted lots of great artists and other famous people that used to live at that time in Florence. Just simply been in that city students will gain a great hands-on experience and knowledge some of contemporary things that this city faced at that time. Been in that city will basically help you to extend the knowledge you get in the classroom and rediscover old streets and architecture wonders like churches and some wonderful palaces to relax and have a bit of fun. Also been given an opportunity to get an insight on some great works done by Michelangelo and da Vinci, Galileo and Dante. The place we provide to our students to stay is located also in a very nice area that is close to Boboli Gardens and Pitti Palace it's another great chance to discover another side of this mysterious city.

Another exciting part is that is only takes a short ride for students to move away from city centre to experience some more relaxed environment to experience vineyards and olive groves. Since Florence is located in the centre part of Italy it makes traveling to other historical sights very convenient and easy.

This program is a great opportunity to get credits while living abroad.

During our trips and excursions students will see the artistic and historical wonders of different towns and villages in Italy. On the weekends students in a group will have a chance to also experience such great cities like Rome and Venice. Optional for some students who want to get even more insight on the life in Italy we will visit the Theater of Fiesole and also take a walk to the place where Leonardo invented his flying machine. Throughout this program you will have a great chance to experinced the Italian cuisine and also attend our cooking classes to master your cooking skills. We also offer some volunteer activities for all students and that might include the shelter for women, house for old people and help with the cleaning.

All students will have a 10 days vacation during Spring and Fall terms. That will give you more time to do traveling around Italy.

Highlights

All cultural and social events may include but not limited to:

• City tour for 2 days: We will visit places like the Forum, old Catacombs, St. Peter’s Chapel, Vatican Museum and the Colosseum
• Weekend trip to Venice: taking a far boat around the Grand Canal, then we will visit St. Mark’s Cathedral, right after we will go to see monumental gold, jewelled altarpiece and a contemporary museum.
• One day trip to Orvieto: we will be exploring the ancient undergrounds and also will give a visit to Civita’ di Bagno Regio village.
• One day trip to Pisa and Lucca: we will visit such place like the Guinigi tower and enjoy the spectacular view.
• One day trip to the Tuscan hill-top towns: taking a tour to famous towers of San Gimignano and visiting Etruscan village.
• Pay a visit to the Siena: a truly nice place to visit Opera, see Piazza del Campo where they used to have hours races and of course visiting the Civic Palace.
• Group hangouts with having on-site lessons in such famous places like Uffizi, Palazzo Vecchio, as well as other archaeological sites, churches and famous historic places.
• Mayor’s Welcome Day will be held at the Palazzo Vecchio.
• Arts show will take place in the Spring
• We will also hold such activities like regular lectures, movie nights, paying visits to different artists, wine tasting events, football tournaments arranged with other US schools, student talent show and other activities.

Program fees include:

• Registration and application fees
• Up to 10 undergraduate credits during the Summer time and 16 credits for Fall, or Spring*
• Orientation at the very beginning
• Student housing
• During the Fall & Spring periods you will receive 5 meal vouchers per week
• During the summer time you will get 7 meal vouchers per week
• Group meals will include: Welcome dinner, final dinner, food will be provided during tours, Thanksgiving dinner for students coming in Fall and for Spring students we will have a Carnevale dinner.
