Job Description

Odyssey is a 9 month, professional work experience program as a language-assistant. It gives participants the opportunity to travel to another province or territory than their own while sharing their language and culture. Under the supervision of a teacher, language-assistants work in an elementary, secondary or post-secondary school to motivate, encourage, and enrich the lives of students. Odyssey gives participants the opportunity to gain paid, professional work experience in a school while discovering another region in Canada, enriching the lives of students, and being immersed in another language.

Roles and responsibilities:
Organizing cultural and linguistic activities
Motivating students while promoting language fluency
Sharing your culture through art, music, stories, games, etc.
Please note: Language Assistants do NOT replace teachers

Compensation:
$18,500 for 9 months (September to May)
25 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Desired Skills and Experience

Eligibility:
You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Solid English or French language skills, oral and written. Bilingualism is not required.
Before the start of your work term, you must have completed at least one year of postsecondary studies in any field of study
Please note: there is no age limit for participation in Odyssey

Desirable:
Creativity and enthusiasm about sharing your language and culture
Experience working or volunteering with children or youth
Teaching, tutoring, coaching or mentoring experience
Experience traveling or participating in exchange opportunities
Basic skills in your second official language
