The traineeship is broken up into three areas:

Month 1: Get acquainted with the daily classroom routine and learn about the skills and issues that children face during each school day. The trainee will spend the first month of the training programme as an observer while spending time with the children during the mornings and afternoons.

Month 2: Get acquainted with the methodology of teaching English to children of different ages and levels. The trainee will use this second month of the traineeship to observe a professional English teacher while building up to instructing small parts of the English classes at the end of the month. The trainee will study teaching methodologies, gain experience in preparing teaching material and participate in lesson planning.

Month 3: The trainee will focus on leading a full English class under the supervision of experienced English instructors. The trainee will be assigned an entire project with particular vocabulary, grammar and sentence structures. This project will encompass all of the lesson planning, preparation of helpful teaching material (including flashcards, worksheets, homework, poster and arts and crafts) as well as the manner of instructing vocabulary.

Highlights

Becoming a TEFL instructor is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for teachers to gain practical teaching experience. Trainees will learn how to be an effective teacher while instructing 20-25 hours of class a week in Sri Lanka. This will be great for CELTA teachers or TEFL teachers who have recently been certified since prior teaching experience is desirable but not necessary. This is a training opportunity that will help people complete their TEFL courses. Classes are small and the students are very enthusiastic. Professional motivation and private passion is a must for this project. We are also looking for enthusiastic team players who are interested in collaboration. Trainees will learn about proper behavior, classroom management, teaching techniques and they will experience the Sri Lankan culture and language firsthand.
