Program Description
The objective of the Student Retention Program is to ensure that students active in the Mayan Families Student Sponsorship Program advance to the highest grade possible. We are currently in the needs assessment phase of this program and hence are researching what circumstances put our students at highest risk of having to abandon their studies. Based on the information obtained through this needs assessment we will solicit funding to create a program to support students in their scholastic advancement.
We are in currently in need of a needs assessment and program plan for a Student Retention Program, which would aim to decrease the number of students in our program that drop out of school.
The Student Sponsorship Program provides over 2,500 impoverished, indigenous children from elementary to high school with the opportunity to receive an education. The students in our program also receive regular monitoring of school work and progress by social workers in our Education Department. The support of individual sponsors covers various expenses for students that they would not be able to pay for themselves, including school supplies, enrollment fees, school uniforms, school shoes, and more.
Expected Outputs
- Create a program proposal based on findings
- Oversee the implementation of this assessment
- Work with staff members to create evaluation instruments to carry out a needs assessment among our sponsored students and their families
