Role Requirements
Successful applicants will be tasked with key operational activities on a daily basis, including supporting new volunteers through project inductions and local orientations, assisting the in-country staff with placement visits and helping to arrange new placements through effective communication with local sports clubs, local schools and other NGOs. As a sports management and volunteer coordinator intern in Accra, your role will be to assist the local in-country team in the day-to-day activities and running of the organisation.

Interns need to be adept and updating social media platforms and producing promotional content for the organisation’s websites. The charity also runs a successful elite football academy, taking players from the local community and providing higher level coaching and educational opportunities through the school of excellence scheme. Your role may also include organising the academy players’ for training, trails and matches.

Volunteers play a crucial role success of the projects and the development of sport in the local community in Ghana, therefore a key aspect of the internship will be the management of in-country arrivals and departures, booking airport transfers for volunteers, compiling welcome pack information, as well as making weekly schedules for social activities and volunteer placements, leading weekend excursions and liaising with volunteer recruitment agencies. Due to the constantly evolving environment in the disadvantaged communities in Accra, the ongoing development of projects and placements as well as communication with the relevant stakeholders and community beneficiaries is crucial to the continued success of the organisation in Accra.

Qualifications
Successful applicants will need to have 1 year of relevant experience, or be undertaking an undergraduate degree in business managements, sports management or a similar/related subject.

Sports Management and Coordinator interns will need to be confident, flexible and personable, with a good level of copy-writing, time management and also an ability to react to the unpredictable nature of working in Ghana. We aim to find business minded individuals with a keen interest in sport and the running of a sports development charity in the heart of Africa. The placements will take place during the peak season for volunteer arrivals in Accra, throughout June, July and August, with a 3 month minimum commitment required by the successful applicant.

Responsibilities:
1. Managing training, lessons, matches and trials scheduling for the charity’s football academy.
2. Making weekly schedules for social activities and placements, and organising and leading weekend excursions.
3. Producing welcome packs and the management of induction talks and orientation tours for new volunteer arrivals.
4. Liasing with volunteer recruitment agencies and managing arrival and departure timetables for airport transfers.
5. Helping to set up new placements and communicating with local sports clubs, schools and NGOs.
6. Supporting new volunteers, providing a local orientation and induction on arrival.
7. Updating the in-country team’s social network accounts and relevant websites with new content.
8. Supporting our local staff by attending placements with new volunteers.

Qualifications

Applicants will need to have at least 1 year of experience in a Sport Management degree (at least 1st year completed), or a relevant field of work. A passion for sport is highly recommended, and an out-going, confident and flexible attitude. Copy-writing experience would be beneficial but not required.
