Program Description

Support a social enterprise in preserving traditional handicrafts and helping local artisans to secure their livelihoods!

Our partner organisation is a social enterprise that marries Indian craftsmanship with modern designs to create beautiful jewellery and home decor products. According to their research, their products could be popular with international customers, and they need someone with an understanding of international trends and preferences.

As a product design volunteer you'll get involved in the design and production process of jewellery and/or home decor collections. You have the chance to delve deep into the colourful world of local Indian craftsmanship, by visiting and connecting with local artisans and learning more about their handicraft.

Following research into international markets, you'll become an innovator by designing products for international target audiences. Activate your creative thinking skills, and find new solutions to using traditional craft for new designs.

Being able to tap into this kind of traditional knowledge is a truly unique experience for any designer. You will not only experience immense professional growth, but grow as an individual who is able to then overcome future challenges ahead.

Highlights

This is a fully immersive internship that not only provide you with professional know-how and experience, but offer you the opportunity to live out your design passion. You get the chance to learn about and immerse yourself in the world of Indian craft - both traditional and modern. You will be part of the design of jewellery and/or home decor collections from the start to the end.
Next to professional hands-on experience in design methodology and processes, you will be fully immersed in the local culture, giving you time to explore the city of Hyderabad, as well as other destinations in India during the weekend.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate would have completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Design or Retail Fashion related subjects. Candidates must also be interested in traveling to local villages to visit artisans and observe their craft.
