Program Description
Practice and further develop your Social Media skills while experiencing a foreign culture! The purpose of this Social Multimedia project is to promote the foundation's mission which is primarily to raise awareness of the rights of all children in Samaná. You will promote our causes through Social Multimedia which includes content published through local media and social media channels. This program aims to address parenting issues and child welfare through educational videos and social media publication. You will produce short videos, documentaries and radio/television broadcasting content. In the past, our volunteers have produced animated motion pictures, recorded videos, worked on photography, conducted interviews, and updated our social media platforms. Even though project topics are provided, volunteers are encouraged to come up with their own ideas. Part of the work consists of keeping track of the foundation´s work with the children and documenting our program activities (e.g., taking and editing pictures and videos and editing content).
Activities can include but are not limited to:
● Take photographs, create video documentations and reports as well as interviews, write and produce graphic and text content
● Update our accounts on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, respond to comments to foster a vibrant community and to expand our online presence
● Use the media to address people emotionally and raise awareness

Highlights
There are many exciting activities to engage in while on site:- Increase your skills in the arena of marketing and content development
- Make a difference to local communities through promoting child welfare and ecological tourism
- Enroll in our Spanish language courses
- Have access to our equipment and software
- Become an expert in one field (video editing, Facebook posts, social media campaigns and many others)
- Get to know Samaná and it's beautiful beaches. Go hiking, horseriding, diving, surfing or go drink a beer at typical Dominican bar at the weekend.
Qualifications
Some previous experience with Multi Media, basic understanding of DSLR cameras and familiarity with editing software (including, Photoshop, Adobe Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro) is very helpful. All that is necessary is enthusiasm, self-reliance, patience and an open mind. However, volunteers with experience are strongly encouraged to apply. An ideal volunteer will have a curious personality, and a keen interest in photography, writing, and other forms of creative multimedia such as online, video and documentary making, culture, and learning new languages.A minimum time commitment of 4 weeks is required.

Cost:
The minimum contribution starts at € 110 per week including double room accommodation at our Aldeas de Paz guesthouse, for a single room we add € 30 per week. The minimum donation for the host family stay is € 200 per week and includes a private bedroom as well as two meals (breakfast and lunch).

During this year, we had the chance to participate in different projects, cooperate with other NGOs and supported the community in Samaná.
My highlight during the time here was interviewing the locals. For example, we collaborated with the organization ISER Caribe. Our goal was to use interviews to promote awareness, understanding and sensitivity with regards to the endangered fish: The Parrot Fish. It was an amazing way to connect with the local community and work together for a greater cause.
Additionally, it was very interesting to see and be a part of Aldeas de Paz’s transformation throughout the year. Particularly, the way the organisation has flourished, the development of new projects we initiated and developed and how we as volunteers became more involved and in touch with the locals.
I also appreciated meeting the international volunteers that joined Aldeas de Paz throughout the year. Everyone brought their own unique ideas, perspectives and culture to work here which helped to enrich the group dynamics and togetherness.
Sometimes the communication between the branch office in Samaná and Las Terrenas didn’t work very well making it challenging to distribute tasks. But I think it's normal for a growing organization to have difficulties as well.
With that said, outside of working hours, we were able to enjoy our free time here in the Caribbean! During the weekends we visited some of the most beautiful beaches, mountains and we visited different cities. We were therefore able to see and embrace most of the country throughout our year here!
I am very grateful for the experience that I have gathered here and I can recommend this a volunteering experience to everyone!
