Program Description

This voluntary internship is a fantastic opportunity for someone interested in gender equality.

Adolescence marks a turning point for many girls in India, where decisions are starting to be made on their behalf, so that they lose control of their own future. Through a variety of programs and initiatives, your partner organisation is targeting school girls and boys to develop them as agents of change. Giving girls the right information, opening up the space to hear their voice, and encouraging them to think for themselves is at the core of these programs. The main focus evolves around three major concerns in a woman's life: health, life skills and marketable skills. As a result, girls about self-awareness and future planning, gain leadership and problem-solving skills, and improve their English proficiency.

The versatile and multi-faceted tasks you will perform as part of this internship will ensure that no two days are the same. For the first month, you will be based in a local school, supporting the implementation of camps and activities. You main responsibility will be teaching refresher English classes. The second part of the internship will be conducted from the partner's office in the city, where you support marketing and impact assessment efforts, developing your project management and business skills. With this experience under your belt, you will be able to create and take advantage of future opportunities and build your career in the long-term.

Qualifications

The suitable candidate must hold a Bachelors degree. S/he will need to prove strong English oral and written communication skills. If you want to get the most out of this opportunity, you should have a passion for gender equality and girl's empowerment, be a self-starter who works independently and without constant supervision, be able to conduct research effectively and have some basic teaching experience (or commitment to complete a short TEFL course before commencing). The candidate must also be flexible and adaptable to work in a school with basic amenities, and comfortable working with MS office.
