An advanced healthcare system

Island hopping opportunities

A short distance from the mainland is Saona Island, a tropical nature reserve and part of the East National Park. Well known for its beautiful beaches, the island is a popular location with filmmakers (the famous Bounty adverts were shot there) and travellers alike. If you’re into snorkelling, visit the nearby Catalina Island and take advantage of the its crystal clear waters and abundant coral reefs.

Explore art & architecture

Don’t miss a trip to the nearby Altos de Chavon – an incredible 15th century Mediterranean-style village, built by Italian architect Roberto Copa in 1976. The village is home to numerous art shops and cafes, an archaeological museum, and a famous amphitheatre at which Duran Duran, Alicia Keys and Elton John have performed.

With stunning beaches and lush plant life in abundance, it's difficult to imagine a more beautiful location than La Romana. Join us for a placement here, and be part of the newest Gap Medics adventure.

This exciting, eclectic coastal city is a hive of activity day and night - from horse riding on the sand and snorkelling through coral reefs, to enjoying art and architecture in Altos de Chavón, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to filling your downtime.
