This is an excellent internship for students who are looking into teaching English abroad and/or wondering about what it is like to live in another country. You do not need to know Japanese before going into the internship, but some language skills can be helpful. Ibaraki Christian University's internship can connect you with a host family during the internship period and while living with your host family you will be able to learn and practice the language. The students the University pairs you with are English students who are looking to practice their English. If you do not wish to live with a host family you can live independently in an apartment.
For the internship your duties are to be a teacher's assistant in English classrooms and an English tutor. You are required to host times during the school day where Japanese students can practice their English. During these times students can receive tutoring for tests and papers.
If you are looking for a cultural experience Ibaraki Christian University is an amazing place to learn about Japanese culture, old and new. Definitely a highlight in my educational experience.
