Criminology Work Experience in South Africa

Program Description

This Work Experience Program covers various aspects of the exciting field of criminology.
You will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in some or all of the following areas:
*Community Police Forum - This civilian forum is working in partnership with the local police and aims to create and maintain a safe and secure environment for citizens living in the area.
*Social Welfare Organisation – this society is made up of trained counsellors, and often provides counselling to victims of crime. Activities vary but you may be observing the court office, assisting with an anger management program in the local prison, or assisting with community based educational programs.
*Law Firm - Criminal law and criminal defence services are provided by a firm specializing in the area of criminal law and providing support for persons facing criminal charges. You will have the opportunity to shadow an attorney and may also be able to observe court proceedings.
*Private Security Firm - A firm providing emergency response services and alarm installation. You may have the opportunity to assist with community patrols or assist in the control room.

You also have the option of combining your Work Experience Programme with any of our Knysna based Community or Conservation Volunteer Programmes! This is at an additional cost, so please inquire for more information.

Qualifications

Specific qualifications are not required for this placement, although those studying or working in the field of criminology, sociology or psychology would benefit from this experience.

You will need to be hard working, motivated and able to show initiative. Volunteers also need to be confident with speaking English.
