Discover Yourself with YFU

Program Description

For YFU students, studying abroad is not just a journey of distance and geography, but of culture and self-transformation. New and challenging experiences await high school students who want to be immersed in a different culture. American high school students or recent graduates who want to experience life abroad are encouraged to register in one of 100 programs in 40 different countries.

In addition to our high school programs, YFU also offers gap year study abroad opportunities for graduating seniors. With gap year, students will experience a new culture and learn a new language by living with a host family in their community. Academic programs vary by country. In some, students will attend a local high school and in others students will participate in college-level courses. Other options include programs with a focus on the arts, cultural tours, and more.

  1. Studying abroad in high school gives you a unique advantage on any college application

  2. By staying with a local host family, students will be able to practice the native language while learning about daily life in the host country

  3. Volunteer opportunities are also available depending on the country

  4. YFU offers scholarships to qualified students

  5. Students will be able to take advantage of their host country's culture through exploring cultural and historical sites, such as museums, cathedrals, or theaters
