The devastation of World War I marked the beginning of Canada’s journey from a colony of Great Britain to an autonomous nation. Feel the flames of national pride as you stand at the base of the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, a gift from France after WWI. Absorb the grandeur and elegance of the Palace of Versailles and enter the Hall of Mirrors to walk among the giants who negotiated and signed the 1919 Treaty of Versailles, sealing the end of the First World War, but simultaneously sewing the seeds of World War II. Walk the shores of Normandy Beach, where Canadian troops stormed the coastline ensuring success in the most critical hours of the D-Day battle at the end of the Second World War.
