Program Description

The UrFU Institute of Civil Engineering collaborated to develop and implement this program.

Duration of study: 2 years

Credits: 120 ECTS

Language of Instruction: English

Entry requirements: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or equivalent)

Program goal:

To train graduates to become specialists in the fields of complex safety and stable development in constructing essential territories and infrastructure. Graduates of this program will also be well versed in the construction of urban complexes and conducting engineering surveys as well as designing and engineering intellectual systems. Students will learn about design, surveying, construction, reconstruction and the operation of civil engineering objects.

Curriculum: The core curriculum of the program includes the following courses:

• Philosophic problems of science and technology

• Methodology of scientific researches

• Special sections of advanced mathematics

• Mathematical simulation

• Basics of safety theory for civil engineering critical infrastructures

• Industrial safety of civil engineering critical infrastructures

• Application of geo- information technologies for improving safety of construction critical infrastructures and territories

• Methods of cost-benefit assessment of civil engineering critical infrastructures safety

• Basic of pedagogy and andragogy

• Business foreign language

• The English language

• Methods of solving scientific-engineering tasks in civil engineering

• Problems and methods of industrial risks management

• Industrial safety management of urbanized territories

• Basic principles of supervision and expert activity for industrial safety of fuel and energy complex objects

• Basic principles of supervision and expert activity for industrial safety of chemical, petrochemical and oil processing objects

Final examination: Final state attestation and defense of Master’s thesis

Students will have the opportunity to observe and practice the methodology of risk analysis. They will experience and explore the practical application of methods of evaluation and prediction of consequences of possible accidents at actual high-risk industrial objects in the Sverdlovsk Region. Students will analyze the industrial method of design documentation and hazardous production objects as well as developing measures aimed at assuring high levels of safety in the construction of critical infrastructures and territories in order to protect the production personnel and population.

Graduates of the program graduates can explore careers in industrial and civil building, hydro engineering and nature protection structures, including unique ones (multi-functional high-altitude complexes); construction materials, products and structures; systems of heat and gas supply, ventilation, water supply and water removal of industrial and civil buildings and nature protection objects; machinery, equipment, technological complexes and automation systems used during construction and production of construction materials, products and structures; land lots, urban territories; methods and means of evaluation of hazards and reducing of natural and industrial risks.
