SACIs Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program in Conservation

Program Description

SACI’s Post-Bac Year Program in Conservation is a perfect program for beginning conservation students. It is also a great opportunities for those students who have prior experience in art conservation and would like to pursue a career in the conservation field. The Post-Bac Certificate Year offers unique opportunities to those who intend to earn an advanced degree (MA, MFA or PhD) and want to support those efforts by creating a significant body of work.

During the Graduate Seminar in Art Conservation, students will have the unique opportunity to learn traditional and contemporary conservation techniques and processes. After choosing a specific field, students perform hands-on work restoring paintings and artifacts that are part of Italy’s historical and cultural heritage. Italy’s top conservators speak with the classes, exploring approaches and diagnostic systems for the conservation of a variety of methods, including archaeological artifacts, paintings, drawing, sculpture and much more. Classes in conservation laws and business practices are also offered during this program.

Highlights

Traditional and contemporary conservation techniques are covered during the Graduate Seminar in Art Conservation. Students have the unique opportunity to visit conservation laboratories, reproduction studios, museums and more throughout Florence and in Italy. Included in the program are field trips to destinations such as reproduction studios in Verona and Milan, and to Rome to see the Vatican Conservation Laboratories and ICCROM.
