Program Description

In partnership with the Academy for Cultural Diplomacy, Furtwangen University (HFU) offers a one-year MA Degree program in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy.

This program examines the framework of political science and international relations theory through using a case study and historical approach for developing a solid foundation in Cultural Diplomacy and International Relations. Students will focus on Cultural Diplomacy with contemporary and historical applications in civil society and private and public sectors. Other academic disciplines covered include Global Governance, Global Politics, and International Relations. Classroom lectures and seminars along with meeting with foreign officials, tours, professional training, conferences, and cultural events will demonstrate contemporary international issues. Specials and experts on Development, Conflict Resolution, Multilateral Diplomacy, Peace Building, Culture, Human Rights, Politics, Communication, Global Governance, and International Relations will meet with students.

Students will be prepared for a wide range of fields including international economics, foreign policy, culture, politics, humanities, and international relations through this professional and academic development program. The Center for Cultural Diplomacy Studies provides an international environment for discourse between students and renowned academics and experts from research centers and international organizations. There are a myriad of independent study opportunities and original research that provides students with an extensive professional network and allows them to form careers in the private sector, international economic organizations, governmental organizations, politics, civil society, and the international arena.

Curriculum
There will be two semesters for a total of 60 ECTS credits. Taking place in both Furtwangen and Berlin, this program also requires students to submit a Thesis at the end of the program. Please inquire for more information on the structure of the course.

Accreditation
Furtwangen University awards this Master’s Degree. It is a fully accredited institution of higher learning.

Admissions
We accept students and candidates who are young professionals as well as recent BA graduates. You must hold a minimum of a 3 year BA degree program from any field. We look to recruit diverse students from a wide range of backgrounds.
• We will accept submissions by current undergraduate students who must present current transcripts.
• Courses are taught in English so there must be a fluency or adequate competency for those who are not native English speakers. We accept a certificate or document that attests to your studying at least 1 semester of English.

Program enrolment is possible in the start of each fall, winter and spring semesters. The next start dates for 2014 to 2015 are:

Winter Semester- January 5th, 2015 or February 16th, 2015
Spring Semester- March 30th, 2015 or May 11th, 2015
Fall 2015 Semester- October 1st, 2015

What`s Included

Tuition - The tuition fee stands on 9,000 Euros for the full program for all students. The fees cover only the tuition fees, and do not include housing or any other living costs and related expenses.

Personal Costs - The ICD and the Furtwangen University (HFU) are happy to assist you with advice and support for finding your housing in Berlin and Furtwangen and offer you as well possible affordable accommodation solutions.

Scholarships - Scholarships, equaling up to 10% deduction of tuition costs are available for students based on educational excellence and financial need. Although each scholarship request will be evaluated on an individual basis, students are expected to have an above-average grade point of 4.5 (of 5.0) in order to qualify for a grant and then to prove financial need. The Financial Aid application is a two-step process; Students interested in applying for a scholarship are required to submit their initial aid application request as soon as they have formally applied to the program, completed the first step of the application, and have been accepted into the program. Scholarships are then determined for the second semester.
