Program Description

Why study Neurosciences at VU Amsterdam?
The professional environment we provide is strengthened by bringing all areas of expertise together in the Neuroscience Campus Amsterdam. You will study facets of eurosciences ranging from genes to behaviour, from both fundamental and clinical perspectives. In addition to the mainstream Master’s, there is also a top-level Master’s exchange programme, which is open to outstanding and highly motivated students. Our Master’s programme is a partner in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s programme, which includes Bordeaux, Göttingen, Berlin, Coimbra and Quebec.

STRUCTURE OF THE PROGRAMME
The Master’s in Neurosciences is a two-year, full-time programme. In addition to attending lectures and research seminars, you will participate in demonstrations, lab visits and
practicals. The first year consists of compulsory courses, to give you a thorough grounding in relevant disciplines, followed by a fivemonth work placement. You will have a wide range of placement opportunities to choose from at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and affiliated institutes. The second year consists of optional courses to expand your knowledge of key areas. In addition to six possible specializations, you are free to put together your own set of four optional courses. During the last six months of the programme, you will complete
your second work placement. You are encouraged to do so outside VU Amsterdam, if possible at an institute abroad.
