Program Description

UCLA School of Law has a reputation for excellence throughout the world, and a nationally acclaimed faculty of leading scholars boasting a world-class reputation for scholarship. UCLA Law's Master of Laws (LL.M.) Program is geared towards foreign and domestic law graduates seeking to pursue a year of advanced or specialized legal education. LL.M. students create their own program of study from our rich selection of advanced course offerings, and take these classes alongside the Law School’s Juris Doctor (J.D.) students. The law school's dynamic curriculum, interdisciplinary approach, and diverse yearly offerings of over 300 courses enables LL.M. students to create a custom-tailored educational experience to fulfill their academic and professional goals during their year at UCLA.

The flexible nature of the program allows students to pursue general studies in law or one of the following specialized concentrations, in which UCLA ranks among the top law schools in the nation: Media, Entertainment, and Technology Law and Policy; International and Comparative Law; four separate Business-related tracks: Bankruptcy, Business Law, Securities Regulation, and Tax; Critical Race Studies; Public Interest Law and Policy; and Law and Sexuality.

The LL.M. degree is offered on a full-time basis during the nine-month academic year, which begins with orientation in mid-August, and concludes with graduation in mid-May.

Highlights

UCLA School of Law's LL.M. Program offers students an invaluable learning experience in a flexible yet rigorous academic environment with some of the best and brightest students from around the globe. As an LL.M. student, you can expect to take courses from distinguished faculty members who are among the best in their respective fields, yet simultaneously accessible and supportive of all students. UCLA Law values an interdisciplinary approach to legal education that enables LL.M. students to take courses outside of the law school in other departments on campus ranging from the Anderson School of Management to the School of Theater, Film and Television.

What`s Included

LL.M. students may supplement their in-class academic coursework with extracurricular activities (e.g. law reviews/journals) or practical experience. This hands-on experiential learning may include clinical courses or for-credit externships in positions ranging from non-profit to corporate legal and business affairs capacities. The LL.M. Program also provides support to LL.M. students seeking to sit for a bar exam in the U.S. (e.g. California or New York). Numerous LL.M. alumni have been eligible to sit for these exams after obtaining their UCLA Law LL.M. degree. Thus, pursuing an LL.M. at UCLA can qualify you to sit for the bar exam in two of the most influential jurisdictions in the U.S.
