Mina`s Dream

For those who have visited Nepal fully understand the beauty of the Himalayas because maybe you have seen it from afar towering majestically towards the skies from as far away as Chitwan. Or maybe you have been one of the hundreds of thousands who have hiked their ways along the well-worn trails towards one of the greats like the Everest base camp. Along the way experiencing the beauty of the hospitality of the Nepali people who treat you as an honoured guest welcoming you into their homes just to sit and drink tea. Leaving you like so many others leaving this wonderful country with memories of one of the greatest mountain ranges in the world as well as one of the warmest welcomes. In fact once you have trekked in Nepal something keeps drawing you back into this small country surrounding by the two Asian giants.
But as a tourist you will have wanted for nothing (except a warm bath maybe on the trails) as you walk along the trails to your destination & back again to settle for a few days in Kathmandu. And this is the tourist side of Nepal where much needed foreign income is generated for this poor country. But away from this there is a different story in these great mountains where communities have struggled for centuries to survive as they pit their wits and strength against the harsh but beautiful surroundings. Communities that have seen a decline in numbers as many decide the move to cities like Kathmandu will give their children a better chance of life. Leaving the ones who are left behind with only the options of working the fields as their parents have done or seeking work in the Middle East where low pay and unsafe jobs await.
But here in the highlands as well as the foothills lie the true beauty of Nepal because its where the old ways live side by side with the new ones. Things like food haven’t changed over the years but the ways of cooking has. In old traditional built houses you find electricity, tv`s & in some place cable etc. Children have the chance of education in one of the thousands of rural government schools that have been set up but with little or no opportunity to use what they have learnt unless they move away to the city.
