Rent a Place in Advance

Moving to a new place can present some real challenges when you have to find a place to live. Many people who go abroad plan to find a place to live once they arrive. They plan accommodations at a short-term location like an Airbnb or apartment, thinking that they will be able to look for long-term accommodations once they arrive.

However this can have disastrous consequences because there may not be any suitable accommodations available, or there may not be any that fit your price range. It is best to do extensive research about what apartments, condominiums, and other living arrangements are available before you leave your home country. This way you won't have any surprises, and won't find yourself stuck in an expensive Airbnb or hotel.

Don't forget the Entertainment

Perhaps one of the most difficult things about moving to a new place, is finding ways to entertain yourself. Depending on the city or country, the type of entertainment that you used to might not be available. Finding new ways to entertain yourself can take months.

Connect with Other Expats

Today there are lots of online groups that cater to expats. No matter what city you are in, they host events to get strangers with things in common connected to each other. You can join these groups and decide what type of activities you want to engage in.

Perhaps you have a particular hobby, you like to have conversations about politics, you want to learn the local language and customs, or maybe you like cooking. Join as many of these groups as you like and they will serve a dual purpose of helping you to make new friends, and learn more about your new living destination.
