Project Location: Mumias District, Kakamega County of Kenya

Khalaba Community Development Group is a self-help group based in Mumias, Western part Kenya. The group was formed with the aim to improve the educational standards of the orphans and vulnerable children, so that they will be able to take care of themselves. The group is running a local orphanage school, which is visited by 10 orphans and 16 widows. The orphans and widows are being supported through the sales of maize produced from their small farm. This caters for the orphans’ basic needs i.e. food, clothing and shelter. The widows also get support from various groups under the Khalaba Combined Development Group. The main purpose of the group is to mobilize the community and self-help groups to participate in grassroots efforts in poverty eradication.
The project Aims at:
Sensitizing and mobilizing groups in order to identify and solve their needs
Establishing sustainable initiatives on community education, agriculture and income generation

Highlights
The work camp activities will be:Teaching of Mathematics, English, Creative drawing subjects to the kids
Feeding programme and assisting with preparation and serving of meals
Brick making activities and construction extending of the project school.
Home visits and helping of the old sick group members
Farmwork which includes planting of crops, digging, watering of plants and clearing of bushes.
Organizing of sports and games as well as playing with the children.
Qualifications
Age: above 18 years from (If you are below 18 years you need a written consent from a guardian)A positive attitude towards independent progress of others
A willingness to adapt to local conditions
A desire to interact and understand other people’s culture and philosophy of life
Be open-minded and willing to freely exchange ideas, information and experiences without imposing your own values on others
