Program Description
This city an excellent option for students wishing to be immersed in local Brazilian culture while also exploring one of the world's most passionate and festive cities, Rio de Janeiro. Niterói lies just across Guanabara Bay from Rio de Janeiro and boasts a community of 500,000 people. The calmer pace of Niterói makes this an ideal study location.
Students who have completed four semesters of Portuguese language training are invited to participate in the program under the Middlebury Language Pledge®, a commitment to speak exclusively the target language for the duration of their time abroad. The Middlebury School in Brazil provides an exceptional academic program to undergraduates at U.S. colleges and universities.
Students enroll in courses such as:
1. Credit-bearing internships
2. Direct enrollment alongside Brazilian students at Universidade Federal Fluminense
3. Writing course organized by Middlebury
Our goal is to provide an enriching academic experience and to give students the best chance of actively engaging in their new environment.
